One of the things I wanted to do with BattleKid before we left the UK for Portugal was to visit as many castles in South Wales as we could. We love nothing more than getting out and doing a spot of dragon hunting while we explore old castles and forts. So, while BattleDad was away one weekend, I did a search for castles in South Wales and came upon one which looked great from the picture. And so it was that we went dragon hunting at Carreg Cennen Castle, just me and the boy.
Be in the Picture is a new linky and Instagram community that has been started by the lovely Kerry of Kerry Louise Norris and Alana of Baby Holiday in which they are encouraging us to feature in our pictures more. I, like most bloggers, am the one most often behind the camera and do regret, like Kerry and Alana say in their posts, that I don’t feature more in the pictures from our days out. I always get lots of lovely pictures of BattleKid and ones with him and BattleDad but never many of myself.
Well, with encouragement from them, I’m going to do something about it. On family days out I’m going to hand my camera over to BattleDad in the hope I can feature more and on days, like last Saturday, when I am on my own with BattleKid, I’m going to try use whatever I can to get myself in front of the camera. I can’t promise I will join in every month but with it only being once a month, I’ll certainly do my best to find at least one picture.
My first picture for this series is a picture I took of myself and BattleKid sharing a flapjack and a lovely Welsh cawl after our visit to Carreg Cennan Castle. We decided to warm up in the tea room before we headed for home and found a lovely quiet spot in a corner in front of a mirror. I took a few pictures of BattleKid and I in the mirror and this is the best of the lot. A perfect start to my participation in this new series and community.

On Saturday we went to see a friend in Swansea and as BattleKid and I were on our own this weekend I decided to to waste the day but going home. Instead we drove from Swansea towards Llandeilo to visit Carreg Cennan Castle. It is a ruined castle, since the late 1400’s and is a Cadw site now, meaning we got free entry with our membership.
It was overcast and grey when we first arrived and I wasn’t sure the rain would hold off but it did and the sun even made an appearance through breaks in the clouds. The main purpose of our visit, as with any castle, was to see if a dragon could be found hiding somewhere in it. We searched high and low and a baby one eventually revealed himself, much to BattleKid’s delight.
Despite the sun it was very chilly up on the hill, a hill I wasn’t sure BattleKid would make up but he did, so after we descended the hill we shared a Welsh cawl (thick soup) to warm ourselves up before driving the 41 miles home. Below is my favourite picture of the day; a happy boy who conquered a hill to hunt a dragon in a castle.
