One of the first things we enjoyed when we came out of lockdown was a family meal out. After months and months of home-cooking, it was a very nice change to have someone else do it for a change. Not to mention the washing up. And it was great to just sit and chat with my Dad over a nice meal in a different setting to home. In this post I am sharing with you the list of places taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out in Cardiff so those of you in and around Cardiff can benefit from the scheme and enjoy a nice meal out. No washing up to do (unless you forget your wallet!).
What is the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme?
The UK government has launched a new initiative called the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme. The idea behind this scheme is to encourage people to venture out to local businesses on quieter days of the week for a meal in order to boost local business and local economy.
Restaurants and other food establishments sign up to the scheme which gives customers a discount on meals and non-alcoholic drinks which the business claims back from the government. The idea is to

and has been designed to help food establishments build back up their businesses after months of being shut. The scheme is available nationwide and even chains have signed up to the scheme.
How does the Eat Out to Help Out scheme work?
Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, between the 3rd and 31st of August 2020, customers can benefit from a discount of 50% on food and non-alcoholic drinks up to the value of £10 per diner, including children. The discount will automatically be applied to your bill in participating places and the outlet will be reimbursed by the government. Anyone can use the scheme, there is no minimum spend required, and you can avail of the scheme as many times as you like throughout the period between 3rd of August to 31st of August 2020.
Which businesses can apply for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme?
Both chain and non-chain businesses can apply for the scheme and they include:
- restaurants
- cafés
- public houses that serve food
- hotel restaurants
- restaurants and cafes within tourist attractions, holiday sites and leisure facilities
- dining rooms within members’ clubs
- workplace and school canteens
So long as the establishment serves food for immediate consumption on-premises, they can apply.
