Continuing our historic tour of southern Ireland, our next stop was County Limerick and King Johns Castle. Before researching our trip, I’ll be honest and say I hadn’t come across it before. But from some of the pictures I saw, I knew it had to be added to our itinerary. Here’s my post about visiting King Johns Castle with kids and what we thought of it.
Despite being from Ireland, there is so much of the country I’ve yet to explore with our son. And whenever we visit Ireland, I’m always looking for things to do in Ireland with him that we haven’t done before. So, in my never-ending quest to find great family days out with the kids in Ireland, I decided to compile my own list. And so, in this post you’ll discover the best things to do in Ireland with kids, some of which we’ve already done, and some of which are on our to-do list.
Lismore Castle and Gardens, located in County Waterford on the banks of the River Blackwater, is a great place to visit with kids. While the castle is not open to the public as it is a private residence, the stunning gardens are. Here is my post all about visiting Lismore Castle with kids, something I did during our Easter road trip in Ireland.
One of our main aims for our Easter road trip in Ireland in 2018 was to visit as many castles as possible. Despite living in Ireland for 17 years, I hadn’t explored many of them and I was going to change that. So, when planning our itinerary, I put as many on the list as possible and plotted our route from there. Visiting Cahir Castle with kids is a fun family-day out in County Tipperary, as we found out, and in this post I’m going to share with our time at one of Ireland’s largest castles.
Ireland, or the Emerald Isle, is a country rich in history. Established by the Vikings over 1000 years ago, it is one of the best family destinations in Europe. From the world-famous Guinness brewery, to the Wild Atlantic Way, to the land of leprechauns, Ireland is a magical country with so much to offer everyone who visits, especially families. We’ve only just begun exploring our homeland as a family and part of that has been discovering some of the best castles in Ireland to visit with kids.
